The race starts about 1.5km from Fujiyoshida station at the town hall which will take as long as 10minutes. I stopped about 1.7km or so till the top which means if I were to run/hike at this pace during the race, I would have about 45mins or so to finish. This guy was able to
finish with a pace similar to mine.
I think I should be able to run a bit faster at the beginning and if I can do that and still manage a time around 2:05 or less at 5th station, I’ll be in good shape.
Lessons learned:
- I’ll be drenched in sweat by 5th station. Need to change clothing at that station
- 2L of water should be plenty. It should last until 7th and by then, I wouldnt need to drink as much
- Both legs cramped up at around the 3:00 mark. Need to add sports drinks to the water (40% mix would do nicely). Salt tablet may also help
- Fingers were numb after 7th. Gotta wear some gloves
- Two gel packs and a snickers bar should be enough. One gel pack at Naka-no-cha and another at 5th
- Need to practice mountain hiking with a big backpack
